Have you tried to mount a shock in it to see if it will work?

Ronnie:

Can you measure the I.D. of the cut off tube in your photo please?

You will have to get Jon L to measure it for you. That is his photo. I just reposted it from a post he made a few months ago.

No, I have new rear shocks, but I am looking towards the future.

I think this will work and it is a lot simpler than any of the other ideas shown.

The inside dia. is 1.904. outside dia si 2.141.

Anyone have a shock absorber that has a normal base on it?

One with the rubber bushing and bracket for the bolt.

I would like the outside dia if you please.

My previous post I gave a description of how to make it real simple,

And it works. I just tried it. But I don't have a regular shock to finish the job.

Anyone know where I can find a chart on the dimensions.

I shared a PDF from Monroe that had a bunch of dimensions. It was much earlier in the thread. I can try to post again in a bit when I have time.

I just received today those strut clamps. About 2 weeks ago received those Allante struts. Hoping I went the right way buying them and am waiting for final instructions for install.

Dave it looks like interest in this and other Reatta topics has ground to a halt all across all the forums. Maybe because of bad weather coming and everyone is putting their cars away for the winter and getting ready for the holidays. Who knows.

Unfortunately, sometimes work travel gets in the way of “project progress” on the home front.

This project is not dead, just a slight delay of game…

more to follow…

Final mockup of the assembly, with all modifications necessary (TBD upon final installation).

Need to install, and do final sway bar bracket adjustments, then can do a concise write up as to one option for unavailable rear struts.

Where is your bottom mount

There is no bottom mount.
The strut is inserted directly into the knuckle, just as with the OEM strut.

photo above shows lower portion of strut extending below bottom of knuckle.  The plan is to use a large diameter bolt as an additional safety measure because the clamping new strut in the knuckle by the pinch bolt is approximately 1/2 of that when using the OEM strut.

see previous comments by Ronnie and others regarding insertion depth etc.

Could we have a final parts list and sources please ?

Yes, along with modifications needed, once everything is installed and finalized.

At this point, the final mock-up of the strut with the sway bar clamp attached has not been installed on vehicle… work in progress, and may require adjustment / further modification.

Your pictures leave a lot to be desired. Your explanation of the retaining bolt cannot be seen in your pictures.

Just finished up on my 1993 Allante strut retrofit for the Reatta w/ sway bar attachment clamp.

My 11 year old daughter and I took it on its maiden voyage… no squeaking / rattling, or other odd sounds.  Very stiff ride, but I actually like it.

Overall, I am extremely pleased with the results so far (10 miles)… the new rear struts did make it obvious that the front struts are overdue for replacement.
