  1. Gibson was the Chevrolet-Cadillac dealer and the new car showroom was right in the heart of downtown Appleton on the main drag; College Avenue. At the same time, the local Ford dealership, Sherry Motors, was also downtown, behind the Sears store, not too far from each other, but on opposite sides of the street, literally.🙂 It is where I saw my first live Shelby Cobra, sometime in the mid 60's.

  2. The strut cartridge itself acts as a shock absorber only, although it does have a structural function to act as an upper control arm. It has no function in the same way a spring does. The air bladder does add some load carrying as well as the leveling function, which I would guess is designed into the suspension capacity. The transverse leaf may be more compliant as a result, but that is only a guess? A longer strut will simply bottom out sooner.
