  1. Remember, the "Theory of (insert item here) is; if some is good, more is better and too much is just right". I learned it regarding carburation, but it is really the Theory of Everything😖 I confess I have fleeting visions of combining one of my turbocharger setups with the present supercharger but eventually it passes. I just remembered the intercooler is still in place but not being used with the S/C, Ooh, I had better exit this post now.🤞

  2. with the cartridge installed and the gland nut inserted until it hits the lower ledge of the strut body, there is 1/2 inch of play between the top of the cartridge and the bottom of the gland nut. the threaded portion of the gland nut is 1/2 inch. the OEM strut body will need to be cut down (shorten the overall length) to ensure the gland nut does not bottom out on the OEM strut body before compressing against the upper portion of the cartridge insert. due to the position of the threads on the gland nut, there is complete (1/2 inch) thread engagement. if the OEM strut body is strong enough, this should be viable…. unless of course, something is being overlooked…

  3. the bottom of the OEM strut body is concave and allows the cartridge to center itself in the lower strut body. I will see what kind of measurements I can take with regard to depth.

  4. That works. In reality, I am a materials engineer by formal training. Have worked in foundries and heat treatment companies over the past thirty or so years. Most of my customers are OEM's, foundries, forgers and machine shops so my mind is equally mechanical. The voices never stop. 😉

  5. If I remember correctly, the GN version of the 3.8 used a cam sensor driven in conjunction with the oil pump, similar to a distributor. It was also used to determine #1 cylinder for ignition and the shutter wheel(s) on the crank pulley are different. There was also an early version of the three coil waste spark Delco ignition from 1986 on the 3.8 engines, the coils being the same as what the 3800 uses but the ICM is different. I think the Delco # for the early version is D1946A and the later is D1977A. I don't know if that might improve the odds of getting a different ignition?
