  1. I'm closely following this storm and it looks like it is shaping up to be the storm of a lifetime. I hope everyone heeded the warnings. Our local news is saying that hundreds of people from Tennessee are already in Florida with utility trucks, tree trimming trucks and equipment, as well as truckloads of food and supplies so they can help Florida as soon as possible. They will be able to restore power and provide support, but they can't restore lives. I hope everyone in the storm's path got out.

  2. Padgett, and any others in Florida, hope you're weathering Ian without much damage or issues. Looks pretty scary on the TV. My thoughts and well wishes to all affected.

  3. Looks a lot like hurricane Charlie in 2004. That passed well south of me, problem was not the winds but all of the mini-tornadoes it spawned. Part or reason I live 80 miles from the coast and a 86 foot elevation. Tucked the tow car in the house/garage V and under a hail-resistannt cover, rest are in the garage.

  6. So far you are doing a great job of troubleshooting. I think you are right about S311, but if you could try disconnecting the switches and light connectors that are easy to get to first to rule one of them out being the problem. The more direct route, but a little harder, is to remove the seat and carpet and start with S311 first. When you have it apart (if it's not already rusted apart and grounding the wires right there) you can test each circuit that branches off individually to determine which one is shorted. If you find problems with the splices on that side you should go ahead and do the splices on the other side because they are probably in bad shape to.

  7. So I think I ruled out trunk latch by disconnecting C400 and the toneau cover switch. I am thinking it must be the splice S311, which I think is the one under the drivers seat.

  9. Padgett, thanks so much for your reply and for the link. With testing, I was able to narrow down the trouble and repaired the cold solder joints. I now have two working displays! (Its always good to have a spare). Thanks again and have a great day!

  10. As you know the wires under the driver's side are power and under the passenger are ground. When I was having a self induced electrical problem with my 'vert we ended up pulling the carpet on both sides and redoing all the splices. Kendall [my mechanic friend who did the soldering] said he was surprised I didn't have other electrical issues. Always a good idea to take a look at the splices.
