  3. Yes, I place the jack here on my convertible. I've never had an issue. My convertible does have a little cowl shake. Sometimes the toneau cover rattles a little in rough parts of the road. My mom has an 03 Thunderbird, and funny enough that car rattles a lot when the hard top is attached, more than my Reatta any day.

  4. 15 Reattas altogether, which really turned some heads. My car was the only ‘88 and got a lot of attention as I had left the windows down so people could poke their heads in to marvel at the touchscreen setup.

  5. I have been asked several times over the years if I could condense the How-To Guides here on ROJ into an ebook or some other file that could be opened on an iPad or cellphone for offline viewing. I've been kicking around the idea of doing that because I can see how it would be handy to have on my wife's iPad to help me troubleshoot problems with my Reatta when something happens and I'm away from home. I have a cellphone to access ROJ on the web but everything is so small. Her iPad display is much better for viewing the how-to guides but it won't connect to the Internet unless you have WiFi available. Let me know your thoughts on this. It would take so much time to do it that I don't know if I could just give it away but it wouldn't cost much. Feel free to let me know what you think a reasonable cost would be. I won't be offended. Also, let me know what you think would be the best format to do it in. PDF, eBook, etc.

  6. I would look at all those components not working as separate issues even though they all might be related. Start with the interior lights. Do a little test to see if the problem is with no 12 volt power or with a ground. Interior lights are controlled by the BCM on the ground side of the light. I'm assuming you have a coupe and I'm assuming your '90 is like my '88 model... Remove the cover from the overhead (dome) light so you can see the bulb. Use a meter or test light to check each side of the bulb for power. One side should have 12 volts. If it does, ground the other side of the bulb and see if the bulb comes on. If it doesn't, replace the bulb and repeat the test. Let us know what you find.

  7. Looks like mine - late car (gold horn button) but no sunroof. I prefer AGM batteries & receipt does not say synthetic oil.

  10. This may seem naive but has anyone called East Coast Reatta? If no go there must be many donors in auto salvage yards.

  12. It's something I'm not terribly concerned with, since I'm doing both seats they'll match each other in the end. I'm fine if they're not 100% accurate or like-new, so long as I'm satisfied in the end. I've started working on the driver's seat, for those interested. I've removed the old patches and glue, then started applying patching underneath to secure loose ends and applying repair/filler and sanding where needed.

  15. Hope you have it fixed. But here is my "soap box" speech. One has to remember that all the Reattas are now at least 31 years old. One has to have known good working back up parts. They would be [but not limited to] MAF Sensor, Ignition Module/Coil Pack, Oxygen Sensor, Crank Sensor. Combined cost for those parts used MAF Sensor, Ignition Module/Coil Pack, and new crank sensor, oxygen sensor is less then $200.00. Far less then a tow charge, diagnostic charge, repair charge and loss of confidence in your Reatta. A number of us have been "helping" for 15 years or more and we know that these are the parts that fail. Please everyone consider getting extra parts, it's called investing in yourself.

  16. First day of spring. We wanted to take a spin in the Reatta convertible. Ha! Dead battery. It got jumped and was driven ten feet out of the garage. Battery still dead but was very happy to have the new toy out to play. Your milage mat vary.

  20. You just never know what to expect from Tennessee weather. We had highs in the upper 60s all last week, including yesterday. I thought spring had arrived. I woke up at 4:30 this morning to lightening flashes and claps of thunder. Looked out the window and saw blowing snow. I've never experienced that before. Now we have 2" of snow on the grass and nothing on the streets. Weird.

  21. Another Reatta sighting. I was in Oshkosh tonight having supper with my sister and Brother in Law. When I was driving out of the parking lot I had to wait for a car to turn to the lot I was in. He was eyeballing me all the way in while I kept thinking "Hurry up dummy so I can get out on the road and get home". So he gets in and I quickly pull out only to have the car coming down the road heading the same way I am be a white Reatta. He wave as he went by, I flashed my lights at him in acknowledgement. Never saw the car before but it does have one burned out bulb in the taillight. And here I thought I was the only guy driving a Reatta in Wisconsin winters...

  22. My Reatta had been sitting in the same spot for quite a while so yesterday I got my Reatta out and drove it around a little. Just enough to limber it up and to keep the tires from getting flat spots on them from sitting in the same spot too long. I closed the battery cut-off switch, waited for the brakes to build pressure, and it fired right up. I let it idle for a few minutes and headed down the road a couple of miles. It always brings a smile to my face when I drive it after not being in it for a while. It reminds me why I continue to keep it after owning it for 15 years. In the past I rarely kept a weekend car (toy) for more than 4 or 5 years before getting rid of it and moving on to something else. I've owned a lot of British and Italian sports cars but I always got bored with them. My Reatta has been the exception. Not only do I enjoy driving my Reatta, I enjoy discussing my Reatta with all the nice people I have met online in the Reatta community. You guys are the best!

  23. It's now been a week and we have had subzero temperatures and the Black sits outside. Starts right up and runs great. Still seems a bit harder on gas, but I do idle it more as I want it to warm up before driving it. Also have been doing some hard acceleration to see if there is any kicking or bucking [there isn't]. I know I was "done" with the car, but I am not. I actually think so much about the car that I bought a set of struts [front and back] and will hopefully get them installed soon.

  25. Just got back from Kendall's as I wanted him to check my work and verify that I had the balancer bolt tight enough and to check the wires in the big harness at the back of the engine at the firewall. He said that the wires were not hard [which he says is a sign of melted wires] and the balancer bolt was not quite tight enough [we put a longer breaker bar on it]. He then gave me a thumbs up and off I went home. I did have a bit of excitement on my way over to his house. There was a State Patrol officer taking radar on the on ramp I used. He never noticed that I had taken the plates off as I thought I was getting rid of the car. So as soon as I got home I put them back on. This car now fires up right away, idles great and is very responsive on the highway. I have to say I got my car back and am no longer interested in letting it go. Sorry 2seater! Also one other thing. I used a business card as my spacer gauge. I couldn't find my feeler gauge...

  26. No photos have been posted for a while so here goes. About every year my wife and I drive on a long gravel road that winds it's way for a mile or two through pasture fields and it dead ends at a little church where some of her relatives are buried. Hardly ever see a car on that road so we can just creep along and enjoy the beautiful scenery. We go so slow you could almost walk along beside the car. We took these photos at the end of last summer. We usually park behind the church near the graveyard and just stand there and take in the view. One of the most peaceful places I know of.

  28. 15 years ago this week I bought my first Reatta, the Red. Flew down to Fort Lauderdale and the guy I bought it from picked me up at the airport with it. It had clear coat peeling but was in very good mechanical condition. Drove it home [long drive back to Wisconsin], had it repainted and then a sun roof added and back in storage until my first spring. Early Christmas present to myself but yet a late one as I didn't drive it until April. Every year I look forward to spring as I get to drive the Red again...

  29. Well... Sharpen your pitchforks and light your torches! Along with a much (50k over) needed tune up and a new LandRover brake accumulator I readied my Reatta for a wrap this last week. I got rid of the badge on the hood and the side molding is gone. I also had the windows tinted. Interior work is on the docket next Edit: I have no Idea why the pic is loading upside down...

  31. The time has finally arrived to scrap the donor car. It has served a good purpose donating many interior pieces including the drivers seat bottom ,the entire dash assembly and lots of small trim and other things. The red car #2 son has was the prime recipient, including both window motors, although the hood, right fender and right headlight assembly went to the black car after the deer hit last fall. Under the hood the radiator went to the red car and the a/c suction line between the accumulator and the compressor went to the black car. Today we pulled the alternator, relays, misc vacuum connections and the entire Teves brake assembly. The last thing will be to see if the ABS sensor leads can be removed. Not much decent stuff remains and I just don't want to push it back inside for the winter. It is sort of bittersweet, being purchased for a different purpose, then languishing for several years until finding what it was perfect for. It has worked out well in the end.
