Door handle

Want to remove outside door handle & lock cylinder for painting.Have removed door panel inside,no access to outside handle.Appears that all lock mechanism has to be removed,but is riveted to inside door skin.Am I on right track?Any advice will be appreciated,thanks.

Welcome to the forum bob! Sorry but I can't offer any help with getting the  handle off. Never been in that part of the door.

Window down, black rubber boot removed 2-10mm nuts have to come off. I think I used a 1/4" drive ratchet/socket and a ratcheting box wrench. Also I believe inner door panel also has to come off as you need to unplug some of the connectors located inside the door. 

 But that is from memory as I last did it years ago...

Hope I'm not too late with the attachment.  I had to replace the door handle in my '89, and got the replacement from Jim Finn. He gave me instructions and I rewrote on the attachment.
