Interior Roof Liner Repair

Question: I have a sagging roof liner. I have read the removal process in the how to section and was wondering if anyone has any step by step photos?

Also if I'm able to selvage the old liner in one piece what are the steps and products recommended to reapply the fabric to the backing?

Or do they sell any aftermarket roof liners ?

Open to any suggestions. Photos of projects always help me more than reading instruction.

Thank you

I can't help you with repairing/replacing your headliner. I've never done it. However, if someone will  post photos as you requested I will be happy to add them to the how-to guide that we currently have.

I had my roof lining replaced many years ago but I do not have any step by step or photographs. What breaks down is the foam backing of the cloth itself, not the glue. It was tedious to remove the liner intact without cracking or breaking the substrate. You have to pretty much remove all the trim in the car that comes in contact with the headliner. I had the fabric replaced by a local upholstery shop who did a great job. This was 15-20 years ago so I don't remember much detail.

I have removed the headliner years ago and everything comes out except the pass through door. The visors also come out and then you will see that the headliner is held in place by velcro. Once you get it down carefully remove the cloth and with a scrub brush or wire brush to remove the glue and liner residue. After I cleaned everything up I took it to an auto upholstery shop for them to do. I did it on the Black that 2seaters son now has and also the Red.

Sorry no pictures.

But be careful with the seatbelt retainers ,they break easily.

Thank you everyone for all the great advice.

I think my minimal skills might be better severed on smaller tasks.

I believe this spring I'll bring it to a few local shops and get some estimates.

Much appreciated feedback.

Thanking you all

I just had my headliner done by a local upholstery shop. Some things are best done by a specialist I  believe. Labor and material with removal and installation  was around $200. It  would be an additional $200 to do the visors which I decided not to get done at this time.
