Underside of front bumper bad luck + Repair Update

Recommended Posts

Was driving back from a pricey tune-up (and other things), and an unexpected dip in the road does this to my front bumper ?

Really bummed to say the least.

Does any one know of any bumper gaurds that work for Reattas?

Sorry to hear your Reatta was damaged. Jim Finn should have the parts you need. reattas60@gmail.com

Reatta only but all years '88 thru '91.

Yes, this one is an 88. It is gut wrenching to hear the scrape! ?

Thank you I appreciate the recommendation but this is on the underside and is pretty much non-visible from the front. Some factory correct Acdelco BLACK (8555) touch up paint and clear coat should suffice. I may even be able to get away without the need of bondo, I guess I'll know once I smooth it out some. So heartbreaking! This 88 was already repainted once before it became mine so a future paint job wouldn't be too big of a deal to me. When that eventually happens hopefully this scrape will be the only body work needed.

I suspect that the scraping of the lower valance is pretty common. With the long sloping hood, its tough to judge the distance to higher curbing and/or other fixed objects. My '89 was my wife's daily driver for over 10 years, and with her smaller stature, she had more of an issue with this than me. Guess that's why the front bumper has a number of minor little "dents" in the bumper molding - she says it shows "character."

Note: I opted not to use bondo since the scrape was not deep enough to warrant it, the 2 in 1 primer also serves as a filler and did the job in this case. I also did not wet sand at any point since the scrape was on the underside and not very visible.
