Overdrive not working very good

In my limited driving experiences with the reatta so far I've discovered there's an issue with overdrive, just tonight I took it to the gas station to get a Reese's and on my way out of the parking lot I pressed on the gas and it didn't move, the engine just revved like I was I in neutral, I just put it down to drive and it was fine, Is this normal? Is my transmission getting ready to go out?

That doesn't make sense the way you are describing it. No car starts out in overdrive. I think what you are saying is that you put the car in the overdrive gear shift position and attempted to drive only to hear/see/feel the car not move. You then applied more gas and the tranny "caught" and then drove off with no issues.

Have you been noticing any other issues [no shifts between first and second, not going into overdrive] that we should be aware of?

You might just be low on transmission fluid, have you checked it? Also have you done a transmission fluid and filter change?

One way to tell if your trans is on the way out is to look and smell the fluid. The fluid should be red in color and smell (for the lack of a better word) sweet. If it checks OK then it sounds like you may of done something to cause air to enter into the filter? I noticed on mine when I turn to the right the engine rev's up and then the trans re-engages and I have changed the fluid and filter and it still does it. Somehow air is being allowed to enter. You may have the same problem.

I'm sorry yeah I described it kinda weird, basically because I read in the manual that when you shift it to overdrive you get better gas mileage so I've made it a point to just always drive around in OD straight out of my parking place, basically I shifted to overdrive left my parking spot, made a turn while still in my complex going about 5 mph when I noticed someone backing out so I stopped, they waited for me to go so I pressed the gas again and it was as if I was in neutral, so then I put it down to the normal drive and it worked fine. I'm a really new driver sadly I don't even have my license yet, I'm currently making some life changes and whatnot, so I basically just have such a small amount of knowledge on even basic things about cars

It sounds like you made a fast stop allowing the trans. fluid to move foreword enough to expose the pickup filter (which would indicate low fluid condition) run the engine to operating temp. and check fluid. With help from someone who can hold the brake pedal down check the fluid in both park and neutral. I have found through out the years that I rebuilt transmissions that some of these trans, will show a different reading. Use the lowest reading to fill the trans. and then check for leaks. (Note) It could also be porosity in the transmission case causing air to enter above the fluid line.

I'll definitely check that out, another thing I heard is that it could've been because I don't run it every day and I didn't warm it up when I took it out last night so maybe I just didn't let any fluid circulate through

Thats not true the car should move as soon as you put it in gear.
