TripleC321
I recently (4-5000 miles ago) did a drop pan and fluid change on my transmission. I refilled it with Dexron 7 fluid. I’ve seen posts going around I should have used a Dexron 3 non synthetic equivalent. Is Dexron 7 okay to use? Or do I need to drop the pan and change to a Dexron 3 ASAP? jon L
Dropping the pan only get about 4 quarts out. You need to flush it all out.
TripleC321 Posted August 5, 2023 Topic Author Share Posted August 5, 2023 Flushing is the exact opposite of what I’ve always been told to do. Cause it gets rid of the all old fluid that has microscopic clutch particles, which you need. I know the Dexron 7 works, it has been working for 4000 miles. I just didn’t know if it was “ideal” or “I’ve been lucky”
jon L
In that case, stop saying "I changed the fluid in my transmission". You only changed 4 quarts of it.

It's common for people to call that changing the fluid. Although technically you are correct, I would have said the same thing If I had dropped the pan and changed the filter. Ohjai
So what is the verdict? Drop or Flush? I think most service stations use a machine to change the transmission fluid without dropping the pan.
Ronnie
I can't find any information about a Dextron 7 fluid so I can't comment about what should be done.
DAVES89
I've always called it "filter, drain and fill"...

You only changed 4 quarts of it. I say change, cause I did. I did this change when I replaced the engine and had the transmission out, so I also replaced the torque converter at the time. So I replaced the vast majority of the fluid.

Dexron 6 my apologies. I misremembered until I looked at my bottle of extra fluid.
