BlakesReatta
Has anybody ever experienced the high pressure hose develop leaks from the power steering? I replaced the pump/reservoir on my power steering and the steering is working again after adding fluid but when I cranked the car up it was smoking pretty bad from the firewall area. I couldn't really see where it's coming from but my best guess is the high pressure hose. The fluid level in the reservoir went down pretty quickly. This time it is smoking a lot more than before with the other pump. The old pump was burping fluid out from an opening and the reservoir was leaking out of the bottom. Fix one problem and a new one comes up!
fun car guy
I hate to say it but it may be time for a new steering rack. In the mean time, I recommend Westley's stop leak.
BlakesReatta Posted July 25, 2022 Topic Author Share Posted July 25, 2022 (edited) The guy I bought the car from said he replaced the steering rack. I'm afraid I got really screwed on this one. I was hoping it was the high pressure hose. I'll examine further this week under the car. It was a little too hot last week. I've used stop leak and that hasn't helped. Thank you for responding. I was beginning to think nobody would share their thoughts. Edited July 25, 2022 by BlakesReatta
Ronnie
While you are under there look to see if the power steering pressure switch is leaking. It screws into the rack.
