braebyrn
1988 Reatta trunk lock and light grounding issue. The owner is 80 and had issues with his trunk lock. He wired a ground wire from a screw on the antenna to the bolt on the trunk lock housing to get the lock and light to work. If I disconnect it, then the lock solenoid won't activate and the light doesn't come on. Has anyone had issues like this before?
Ronnie
That's not too unusual. The turn lid grounds through the hinges that can get dirty and corroded preventing a good ground. The fix is to make a short jumper wire to go across the hinges between the body and the trunk lid to make a good ground connection. Basically that is what he did but it probably didn't look too good. Some people get fancy and run a ground wire through the wiring harness so it won't be seen.
braebyrn Posted January 22, 2017 Topic Author Share Posted January 22, 2017 Thanks Ronnie. All done and working great. This car looks and drives like it came from the dealer new. Time to find a new owner for this cool car.
