  1. Just so you know, most of the EGR can be disassembled and cleaned. The three solenoids are fixed but the pintles and ports are cleanable in case a little carbon is holding one open a bit. Each solenoid can be cycled in override mode to see if they are operational.

  3. It has occurred to me that I have lived through some interesting times. When was young, "What's good for GM is good for the USA". When I went to work there GM was concerned about selling too many cars (over 50% of the cars sold in the USA, more than Ford, Chrysler, and AMC combined), the fed was talking about a monopoly and breaking the corporation up. GM then shuffled divisions and capabilities so no one company could stand alone: Cars had to be built in Fisher Body plants with parts from Delco, Rochester, Harrison, Saginaw, Hydramatic, and DDA. Dealers had to get parts from GMPD.. Today Mary and co. have a really nice building in Detroit but major decisions are made elsewhere (SAIC) and most of the side divisions have been sold off or separated.. (Delco-Remy is owned by Borg-Warner, Guide Lamp was separated from GM then closed in 2006. Pontiac and Oldsmobile are gone (Chinese really like Buicks). Think of it as evolution in action.

  4. Which I could be of assistance here, but I am closely following along and hope to learn something myself for possible future reference !!

  5. I have one extra windshield in my basement but I also have 3 Reattas.

  6. If you want to buy a donor car with a good windshield, I have one in Zeigler, Illinois.

  7. You'll have to get a used one most likely. If you have a donor car, a glass installer can remove it from the donor car and install it on your car. There are other suppliers of windshields but they don't come cheap.

  8. Lol, even if gas were still $5 a gallon, it would be cheaper to operate a Reatta or any gas burner (without a big monthly payment) that gets over 20 mpg than making a monthly payment on a new EV. Plus, electricity prices are way up......so it's not like you're saving money on electricity either.

  9. I ended up doing what you said Ronnie! Tried the A/C Pro stuff and although the pressure appeared to be already in the "green zone"...I haven't had the light come on since! Thanks so much!!!!!

  11. In case anyone is interested the chime module for an '88/89 Reatta is located on the back side of the CRT controller by way of a bracket. Very hard to spot, but easy to get to going through the console panel on the driver's side. [Dealing with a cornering lamp issue]. The lights all work as they should all the way around the car [front and rear] but the left front directional won't flash [passenger side does].

  12. I am chasing a inconsistent idle and engine performance problem. I have replaced the crank sensor, cam sensor, timing chain and gears, throttle position sensor, water pump, battery, alternator, mass air flow sensor, took the idle control valve out, cleaned it and the port it goes into, (even though there was very little carbon build up if any at all) and I still have the same issue. I am nearly certain it is an EGR issue and am going to order a new EGR valve. What's another 100 bucks spent on a car I really do like, but feel as if I am being nickeled and dimed to death.

  14. Don’t forget you get a new rate for your Medicare too. I don’t remember exactly the figures last year but the Medicare up charge was 14.5%. Added together for the seven years I have been with that program, rates have increased 55%, which I guarantee is not matched by Social Security percentages. Several years ago when inflation was low, Medicare ate the entire SS dollar increase😕

  15. They might look a little bit bigger but they will be worth considerably less than they were in 1993. Inflation has eaten away our SS check and raises aren't going to catch them back up. My father once told me about my grandfather getting his first Old Age Pension check for $13.55. He said my grandfather told him giving away that kind of money would break the country. I wouldn't be surprised if that $13.55 didn't buy more than our SS check buys now.

  17. I recently took my’ 88 to Cars and Coffee Columbia,SC. I like these because they start at 7:30 am and break up around 10. Hot and humid here all summer long, thankfully my AC is working well !

  18. The rare earth minerals for the batteries are truly and issue as we have no way of mining these materials fast enough and the cost of these commodities will continue to rise astronomically. Ironically, China controls most of this market as I understand. The other thing they don't tell you about EV's is that when the battery dies, it's very costly to replace. I've heard $5k-$20k. Also, the other thing is the safety in a rollover crash. I know someone who's friend rolled over in one and it blew up because of the battery. Sadly the person died in the crash. The EV Utopia that is currently being promoted is more of a dystopia in my humble opinion. Has anyone else heard about this?

  19. Chevrolet still has the Malibu. This is the last year for the Korean built Spark. Chrysler still has the 300 which hasn't changed much in the last 15 years. Plus the Dodge Chargers are still around. It's sad what the SUV has done to continue the homogenization of the US. It's like everything that was cool and quirky about the variety of the past keeps getting filtered down into "more of the same."

  20. It's pretty easy to do. Go to you local auto parts store and tell them you need a filler hose kit and a can of freon. Follow the instruction in the video below for adding the freon to your car.

  21. I have to add at least one can of freon every spring after my car has not been used much over the winter. I've had to do that since I bought it. Most of the time when I use the AC I have the windows rolled down at a stop light or something. I enjoy my car with the windows down. It makes me feel like I'm driving a sports car.

  22. A service manual, tools, and spares are not necessarily for the owner. However for the mechanically inept a AAA Premier is well spent.

  23. I just saw that the AVERAGE price for an EV is $66,000. If you can't afford gasoline, no worries, just buy an EV!
