NO! Emergency Brake!

My mechanic has looked at it twice and tightened the cables, etc.  Still no brake... give me a break

I had a problem with my '89 when I noticed that the e-brake cable was hanging low and no e-brake function. I took the car to my dealer/mechanic who "released the e-brake and sprayed with penetrant." The mechanics notes on my invoice states "brake will probably hang up if e-brake is used again." That was in 2015.

Since taking ownership of my Reatta in 1996, I probably didn't use the e-brake more than as many times as I can count on one hand. And again, since the above admonition, I haven't used the emergency brake again.

I'm guilty of not regularly using an emergency brake on any of my automatic transmission cars. I know that by not doing so, the above scenario is common.

You do have to pump it a couple times.  I actually didn't know this when I first got my reatta and assumed it wasn't working. Then I stumbled across it in the owner's manual.
