There has been a request for my carpet dye recipe so here goes but use at your own risk!

I used Rit brand fabric dye obtained from the grocery store. I used one 8 oz. bottle liquid of TAN (no. 16) and one 1 1/8 oz. package dry GOLDEN YELLOW (no. 42). I could not find those colors both in either liquid or dry.

I mixed according to package directions but did not add any salt. Use 8 oz. of hot water to dissolve the dry dye. I then mixed the two together in a 1/3 Golden Yellow/ 2/3 Tan mixture. I added enough water to produce about two quarts of liquid dye when mixed together. This will be a concentrated liquid which will produce the desired results.

Use a sprayer bottle to apply to the faded carpet and brush into the knap with a short-bristle carpet brush. Allow to dry overnight with car doors open if possible.

My results were very satisfactory. Over time fading may occur but there will be plenty of dye solution to do it again. The mixture has a long shelf life---at least five years.
