rogold
After driving home tonight (with no dash lights) I decided to try and fix the problem. The troubleshooting indicated a bad photocell. Since I had one in my stash of parts, I decided to try the swap. The ROJ instructions http://reattaowner.com/roj/86-body-a-interior/body-interior/142-dash-pad-removal-instructions says both the vent cover and the dash pad had to come out to change the photocell, but I was able to change it by only pulling the vent cover, then the screw for the photocell mount. The lights now work as advertised. My car is a 89. Did some years have different dash parts that require pulling both the vent cover and dash pad, or did I just get lucky. I was not looking forward to popping out the dash pad, even with the special tool. Maybe the instructions were meant for the inverter.
