Another cause for E026?

Yesterday I swapped in an IPC that wasn't marked "tested" and today driving it for the first time kept getting an "Electical Control" warning. Because the "Service Engine Soon" [sES] light never came on I knew that was the issue. Pulled the IPC and saw that both the SES and ABS bulbs were missing. Replaced the bulbs then installed this IPC and all was good. Read the codes to clear them and I saw that I had a "E026" history.

I think a missing or burned out SES bulb could also give the E026 code.

You are correct Dave. A burned out bulb can cause a code E026. Actually it was documented some time ago in test #8 of this tutorial.  Code E026 Troubleshooting

Thanks for pointing it out. It is good information to have posted here because a code E026 can be very hard to troubleshoot.
