A smelly ride through the mountains

We drove the Reatta about 200 miles through the beautiful mountains of East Tennessee.  In Madisonville, about 70 miles away from home, we stopped a restaurant for lunch. When we came out we smelled gasoline really strong. Kat said she thought she had smelled it a time or two before then.

I drove to the nearest gas station because the gas warning kept flashing on the CRT.  Before I started filling up I smelled the gas again.  When I got the tank full I pulled over to the side of the parking lot to investigate the smell. When I pulled the cover off the fuel rail and discovered fuel leaking from the Schrader valve cap and running down onto the engine manifold. Removing the cap and relieving the pressure caused the valve to seal again. I guess it's time to replace the valve. We were lucky that the engine didn't catch fire.
